The Motorola Moto X 2nd generation is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor and has the Adreno 330 GPU, whereas the Moto X Play has a Snapdragon 615 octa core processor in it with Adreno 405 GPU. Both the Moto X 2nd gen and the Moto X Play has 2 GB of RAM and comes in either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage space. However, the Motorola Moto X 2nd gen lacks a MicroSD card slot for external storage expansion whereas the Moto X Play has an external SD card slot that can take SD cards up to 128 GB.
Even though you won’t be viewing any performance issues in day to day tasks, if you are in need of a Smartphone that can handle heavy multi tasking and hardcore games, then you should probably opt for the Motorola Moto X 2nd generation, as it basically has more CPU power than the Moto X Play.

The Motorola Moto X 2nd gen is powered by a 2,300 mAh battery which is non removable and can last up through a day of low to moderate use. On the other hand, the Motorola Moto X Play features a massive 3,630 mAh battery that can easily take you through a day or even more on battery backup.
Pricing
As far as the pricing is concerned, the Motorola Moto X 2nd generation, which is about an year old, starts at RS. 19,999 for the 16 GB variant. And for the recently announced Motorola Moto X Play, the pricing starts at RS. 18,499 for the 16 GB variant.
However, if you were to opt for the 32 GB variants, then the Motorola Moto X 2nd generation will cost you RS. 22,999 whereas the Motorola Moto X Play will be costing you at Rs. 18,999.
